Well here is my .02 on the new headlamp from REI I got. It is a Fenix, famous flashlight makers, and it is an HL60R - it is WAY OVERKILL at 950 lumens but...........

I love it. For $80 it is very pricey but after my first couple of weeks using it I really like it - 950 lumens isn't a joke though it is super bright. It has 5 settings and the biggest disappointment so far is the red light feature which is actually too dim for any practical purpose other than being seen by others without blinding them. On the Lowest setting, I think literature says you can get about 100 hours of use - it is too dim for all but close work but it is good.
I also like that it is rechargeable and upgradable - the battery can be upgraded to a longer life one if you want. I also like the construction of the Headlamp - It is made from aircraft aluminum so it is a very durable lamp unlike some of the plastic ones that seem to have flooded the market.
Over all I give the lamp 3.75 stars out of 5 - points lost on price, red light feature, and literature that it came with - take price out of this review and they get 4.5 starts out of 5.
