I like your layered approach for getting more insulation out of these $20 throw blankets, only wish they were available more than a few days out of the year. I ordered K2 pliers and some size 22 and 24 plastic snaps from KAMsnaps dot com but that web site has so many options it is overwhelming. Because I tend to over engineer my projects I used the 14.8 mm diameter caps with 7.5 mm prongs (size 24) requiring K2 pliers (or bench top which I didn't buy). I had considered a large sewn "sleeve" with one end closed with just velcro or snapped shut several years ago to insert extra layers of "clima-shield" synthetic insulation to eliminate the extra layers of fabric when layering multiple UQs for colder weather, but have never gotten around to that project (Similar to what BillyBob66 mentioned in his comment above). However, in the end I just snapping one quilt without shock cord to another or to an UQ-protector that does have sock cord, is simpler for me. I made this a multi-purpose Under-Quilt Protector about a year ago, initially I was going to use velcro (omni-tape) but then switched to plastic snaps once it tried them. Nothing is perfect but they work well enough, have had a few pop loose but never enough for it to completely fail. Also used them to form a foot box in the end of a jungle blanket from Snugpak, it works well, kicked one snap loose but most held firm. In my experience snaps are only slightly more difficult to use than a nail gun or stapler, if you can built a dog house that doesn't kill your dog you can work with a pair of snap pliers :-)

I snjoyed watching you make this and especially like the optional liner. Not everybody has a thread injector.

Hey Sarge,
New member here. I enjoyed the video and the no-sew approach. I can envision my gear as having a plethora of snaps now! The corner fold you did that allows for the open end on intersecting channels was a revelation as I have struggled with that on many projects. So simple and right before my eyes, geez.

Thanks for watching!

Careful that the snap bug don't bite too hard. Pretty soon you'll ber trolling an tique stores looking for old Singers and Kenmores----

The corner fold was the AHA moment that made me get in the car and run over to Costco last year, only to find out they'd sold the last one. I've been holding that idea in my head for 9 months now.

Once again, Uncle Mike proves he is master of the snappy comeback.

Well now I've gone and done it...

Forecast is for around 50 degrees tonight north and west of Houston. Will be testing out the CDT UQ System a-la-Sarge, and the CDT TQ as well. I'm going to start out with a single UQ and a single TQ. Will have other components on standby if needed. If needed, I will try throwing on another blanket, or maybe my other CDT TQ at first sign of discomfort. Doubt I will ever need the UQ Booster but will have it at the ready...installing it will be a SNAP!

Excuse me. The R&D Department just called...
