PDF Maps - fairly useful

Hi guys and gals,

I came across this yesterday, and thought I'd share it in case some of you may find it useful and hadn't heard of it. Basically, it takes advantage of embedded data in a PDF map, and you can use it with your GPS to navigate.

For me specifically, I hike a LOT in state parks. I recently discovered that the MD DNR site has a slew of TOPO PDF maps, in a GEO-Spatial-PDF format. I went on a 6 mile hike yesterday after work using this APP with one of these maps, and it was really neat. Nothing beats good old fashioned orienteering with a map and compass, but this is a neat and useful utility as well.

So, if your state or favorite trail offers Geo-Spatial-PDF maps, take advantage of them. They also seem to be available for cities and towns, and who knows what else.

It's called Avenza PDF Maps.

Here is the APP for Android (it's free):

Here it is for iPhone (don't know if it's free or not, I use Android):
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/avenza- ... 24049?mt=8

Hope someone other than myself finds it useful. Happy trails, and happy hanging!
