So what exactly was the "logic" behind the nylon endcaps? Fashion or function?

I can see two advantages:

1. As Randy says in the video, you essentially have waterproof endcaps on your bug net.

2. Durability. Even the best bug net material is fragile over the long term, especially at the ends where you take them off and put them back on again, running the suspension through it every time. Ripstop with DWR is going to be much more durable over the long term.

This was ordered by a long time DH customer now living in Montana. I guess they often experience severe storms with wind blown rain that can find it's way through even full coverage tarps with the doors closed.

The end caps on this particular net are made from the 7d Robic, which is highly water resistant (1000mm), but yet still breathable.

The thought is to provide water resistant or waterproof ends that can be used with a smaller asym style tarps without building up condensation.

Hey Randy---

Do you think your customer would mind if I steal that design?

I've got an idea on how to use some left over fabric I just bought-------

My design and you're certainly welcome to try it and see if it works well for you.
Iv'e got 2 more halfway finished, but have a couple other projects that need completed before I can get back on these.

I am interested to see how this pans out for them.

Kind of reminds me of the ends on MDSH's "ugly baby" (I think that's what he was calling it).

Although, this is a more aesthetic execution. Sounded like it worked well for him; he made his out of cuben.

Now that's a good idea. I always liked the weight of an asym tarp but never felt like I had enough coverage.

Low weight? Good coverage? Sounds like a job for cuben fiber:

As an additional benefit your wallet will be much lighter also.

Heard from Rambling Hemlock who currently has this net out on PCT. She reports that it's working well and very happy with it.

She also reports getting a small hole in her Darien hammock. I offered to send her out a replacement, but she has the old one patched up with Tenacious Tape and is hoping it'll make it to the end with her.
