Sand Branch

Decided to head out for a little hike this morning with the girls.

Started out at TH#2 of the Lone Star Hiking Trail. This was our first time on the trail and I wanted to have a little look at the Sand Branch trail and this Korean Pond I've read about. It was somewhere between 28 and 32 degrees when we left the trailhead.

Here's a shot from the trail...

We headed down the main LSHT for about 2 miles to the Sand Branch Trail and turned right. Sand Branch was is good shape.

We turned off of the SBT at the sign for the primitive campsite but there was someone camped there with his dog so we let him be and headed back down the trail to the pond. He did have a tent set up on the tent pad but the portion of the siteI saw looked small.

I was very pleased with the area around the pond. I can't wait to go back when we can stay the night. The girls and I set up a pair of hammocks to hang out in and eat lunch. I fired up a few alky stoves to make Knorr sides and mac n cheez. A couple-a meat stix, trail mix and water and we were fueled up. Hung out for a while after lunch but it cooled off quite a bit once we got still. None of us were ready to leave but we had a Houston Texans playoff game to watch so we packed up and headed back to the truck.

Looking forward to going back up that way in a few weeks to learn more about the Sand Branch Trail and what we can do to help out as trail stewards.

Hope to see some of y'all out there on the trail soon.

Looks like a good time was had by all. Great way to spend the day! How about some pictures of the aforementioned alky stoves.

3 different variations here. I usually use the one on far right.

In use demo...don't mind the extraneous commentary from the ladies of the house...
