Hikers Thanksgiving, LSHT, Dec 9-11

#1

Post by Scuba » Tue Nov 15, 2016 10:46 am

Who - all are invited
When - December 9-11
Where - LoneStarHikingTrail
Why - because we can

Details - We will meet up Friday between 12 and 2pm at PL #4 and take the short hike to the hunters camp 1 mile WEST of there. Saturday am after breakfast, we will hike via whatever routes people choose to Korean Pond. Once there we will celebrate Thanksgiving with a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Sunday, we will hike out to PL#2 where we will hopefully have a vehicle or 2 already staged.

Day 1 - 1 mile to camp, optional hikes available
Day 2 - 4miles mimimum, other distances are available
Days 3 - About 2.5 miles to PL#2, other distances are available

Even with all the available distances, I won't be able to talk the Little Colonel into this one, at least this year. We're headed back up to Fairfield the following weekend. Anybody that wants to come along, let me know.

Any further details to share? Any idea on how many folks you are expecting? I'm a 50/50 at best right now but still hopeful.

Probably 5-10 people, VERY relaxed hikes. I will bring the food necessary for the Saturday night Thanksgiving meal.

I will be at PL4 from about 12ish until 2-3ish, then hiking in.

Be careful out there. Lots of water on the trail:

Last time it rained this much (April last year), that campsite near PL4 had 4" of water in the primo hang spots. The fire ring wasn't under water, but everything from there over to the creek was. The Pole Creek trail also was pretty wet, too. Should be OK down that fire road from 249, but there's no real good routes for hiking over to Korean Pond from that spot. I'd recommend shuttling over to PL2 and hiking in from there.

I'm no longer in...work doesn't seem to understand or appreciate my affinity for being in the wilderness.

Looking forward to pics and stories.
