Under / Top Question

#1

Post by Finnster » Fri Feb 19, 2016 12:16 pm

Hey guys. I finally got my Hennesy Hyperlite Asym Zip and I have a curiosity question about the quilts I am looking at getting.

I am thinking of getting the Hammock Gears Incubator 20 for the under quilt and the Burrow 40 for the top quilt. I also have a liner that adds 15 degrees to the math. Would this be an acceptable combo for the winter seasons in the US? Would I need better insulation in the higher elevations as in the CDT or the PCT?

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!

You're set up for 40 degree nights (your limitation is the TQ), with a possible additional 15 degrees from the liner. You can get as much as 5 degrees with a tarp slung low (just above your hammock ridgeline and steep enough to nearly touch the ground) provided you have doors. You can add about another 5 degrees with a hammock sock.

But there's a lot of "ifs" involved in all of that.

Ok cool. Thank you! That answers my question. I need to then get at least down to 20 degrees on my top quilt.

I have an REI travel down bag that I can use for the summer / early fall months combined with a foam pad and I think that would be good.

Thanks Sarge!

I hit, at least, -13°F in January using the following:

Incubator 20+2 oz
Greylock 3 over the Incubator
UQP

Flight Jacket 20
JRB quilt liner/summer blanket, said to add 20°

I've found I need more under me than on top, in WI and northern MN, so I say go with your original plan.
