The loops are for pulling the mags out of the mag pouch.
While its all a matter of personal preference, my feeling is that carrying rounds up might mean dirt and debris getting caught up in the mag, even with a flap on the pouch.

Has anybody played with buffer spring tension or flat springs in the buffer ? How about barrel length any diff between a 16 and 20 inch in real world accuracy? How about some real world on barrel manufacturers or hammer forged vs standard .tons of info on these topics but I've found very little on real world results only claims based on "they said it's better" is it really ?

OK, on my computer now.

I'll use and AR platform for an example. The main difference between a 14.5 inch barrel M4A1 and an 20 inch DMR is muzzle velocity. At most ranges in which modern combat occurs (<300yds) the difference in velocity will have little impact on results. Ammunition and skill have a much larger impact. The reason many SOF use a MK17 SCAR H, HK 417 or AR10 platform is the ballistic behavior of the 7.62x51 NATO round vs the 5.56x45 . Yes the weight of ammo is a significant factor, but after the first 75lbs of gear everything else is a wash. I have a 20inch barrel on my SCAR 17 because at ranges out around 1000yds, the 20 performs a better than the stock 16 inch barrel.

For buffer springs, the main thing there is QUALITY. You can get a cheap buffer spring for less than $5, or you can pay over $50 and get a Geissele Super 42. The Super42 is a braided wire buffer spring made from 3 separate wires and it allows each wire to flex independently. This is the same design used in the old MG42 of WW2 fame.By flexing the way they do, it displaces energy more efficiently and decreases the chance of spring failure.

CHF barrel vs standard comes down to use and budget. If you shoot less than 1000 rounds a year and want to save some $$, go with a standard barrel. If you shoot over 1000 rounds a month and you want your barrel to last more than a year, you pay the extra and get a CHF barrel. SO to answer your question, for the average user a standard chrome lined barrel is fine, just buy from a quality manufacturer.

Copy. Thanks for the input again. Do you have any recommendations for barrel manufacturers? I may do a second complete upper with a 20 or 24 in. Just to be able to change it out from my 16in. For longer applications. I have a Delton Hbar now it seems to perform ok for my use but I'm sure it's not the best.

For unbeatable quality, I recommend Noveske, followed by Larue Tactical, Spikes Tactical and Daniels Defense.

How about a 300 blackout set up? I'm thinking it's just a barrel changeout, same bolt carrier ,magazine etc. in some cases you may need to have a shorter gas tube as some 300 blk barrels have the gas port in the carbine position to give it enough ass to cycle the action reliably. Anybody familiar with this ?any input ?

300 blackout is a great round IF you are running suppressed. It was designed to be a suppressed round. If you aren't using a suppressor, it is a waste of money as it can easily cost 2x as much per round as decent 5.56

Hmmm well I guess that rules that out . His majesty King Cuomo frowns upon us peasants having such equipment here in Ny. Thanks again I didn't know it was for that application.

I use a JP captured spring and have all the various springs for it. I also have an adjustable gas block meaning the springs became irrelevant. Get the block, if God build AR's they'd be equipped with adjustable gas blocks...

Ya I didn't even know that adjustable was an option until I dove all the way into these guns. So many options and parts let alone vendors. If I ever have to remove the block I have now or in future builds I most likely will go with adjustable gas block.

Nah, if God built AR's, they'd have pistons.
