I would like to know what everyone is using. I am currently using Salomon Speedcross 3. Thinking about trying some La Sportiva or Altra next.

Love my MOABS. I wore them every day for three years before they developed any kind of problem that affected wearability.

Thanks everyone. Scuba, do you feel any comfort difference between the mids and the lows?

Moab ventilators here. Like 7 years now. Low one's. I walk in them, go orienteering in them, hike in them, wear them at the gym, mowing the lawn, at work. I actually keep 3 pairs. The most worn out (i have a strange gate) are for washing cars and mowing lawns. The other two are all the rest of the time.

But given that, everyone is different. I spent like two hours at REI, tried on everything. Did the same at like Athletic warehouse. Went with Moab's cause they felt great.

Whatever is on sale, and breathable. Low top. Trail or aggressive sole. I gave up heavy leather boots ages ago. (except for cowboy boots and motorcycle boots). As long as the toes are not too tight, my feet are not really picky. Rarely do I complain my feet hurt or do I get blisters. The only real exceptions to this is years ago I had a pair of Ecco boots with gum rubber soles. Very comfortable, so if similar price, I would go that route again. But they were not TWICE as comfortable as my other shoes.

I'll chime in on the Merrells. I've had the mids and the lows. I prefer the lows, mainly because without some sort of gaiters, the mids just funnel gunk, like burrs, dirt, sticks and rocks onto your socks and into your shoes.

I will be looking for a small gaiter like a "dirty girl" DIY style to keep wearing my mids. Then I will go back to lows after they die...

IMHO, just buy the lows, there's no extra benefits from the mids, like support for your ankles. For that, go with combat boots ☺

YMMV, take it easy,

I generally prefer the mids for the ankle support.
