This post is made on behalf of the entire Administrative Team and represents a Statement of Principals

Your words have value.

In the simplest terms, your words have value simply because you are a Human Being. Our Nation's Founders expressed this concept when they wrote in the Declaration of Independence
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed
And then enshrined those rights in our Constitution:
First Amendment - Religion and Expression. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Your words have value.

Internet Discussion Sites like the one you are reading now depend on your contributions to remain viable. Every question and every answer contributes to the site, and those questions and answers, along with product reviews, how-to tutorials, and discussion of differing methods and procedures are the reasons why anyone visits any Internet Discussion Site. Some sites see that value, and find ways to turn the value present in your words into a profit for themselves. The way that they do that is to get you to surrender your Copy Rights. They do this in their Terms Of Service or Users Agreements by inserting phrases such as "This site assumes Copyright on anything posted here." or "By participating in this site, you agree to surrender Copyright to the owner." Some of them will even ask that you not post what you write to any other site. This means that you cannot edit or delete your posts. You have lost all control of your words, and the value contained therein.

This is not one of those sites.

That's because we know that your words have value, and that value is rightfully yours to control. We allow you to delete any and all posts that you put here for whatever reason you choose. The only restriction is that your posts conform to basic norms of decency regarding pornography, foul language, encouraging acts of sedition or the commission of a crime, bigotry, and hate speech.

A technical provision of the site will not allow you to remove the first post of a thread that you start, but you can edit the first post to remove what you have written there. The only other alternative we have would be to allow you to delete the entire thread, but then you would also be deleting the posts of others who contributed to it, and we recognize both the value of those posts, and the right of the people posting them to control their own words.

This site is established to discuss various aspects of Hammock Camping, but we recognize that we cannot logically limit the discussion here to just discussing hammocks, without discussing camping and backpacking---and that those discussions have value.

Other sites recognize both the desire of members to discuss other aspects of camping and backpacking, and the value those discussions represent. They use that value to make a profit by charging a fee for you to see posts of that type, which is also a fee for the privilege of posting there---and those posts enhance the value of the site because your words have value.

This is not one of those sites.

You may notice that there is no button, no icon, no link to a place where you can send us money. It doesn't cost much to run a site like this, and we are more than happy to bear that cost because your words have value to us, we want to read them, and we want other people to benefit from them. The last thing we want you to do is to pay for the privilege of giving us what we need to keep this site viable. There may come a time when the cost of running or improving this site becomes a burden we cannot bear, and we may ask for some help. We pledge to you now that if we ever do find the need to ask for this help, we will tell you the exact amount needed and what it is for---and we will not collect one penny over the needed amount. Once that amount is reached, we will thank those who contributed and stop accepting further contributions.

Your words have value.

That's because you can tell us who you are, and we want to know you. We provide you with a space on every post you make for you to place a personal message---a "Signature". We place no limitation on what you put there over what is expressed above for your posts, and technical limitations due to bandwidth restrictions imposed on us by the website platform we are using. We pledge that we will not take sides with those who wish to silence you for whatever opinion or identity you choose to post there. You have the right to tell people who you are, and that's because YOU HAVE VALUE and we respect that value even more than the value of your words.

First I would just like to say, thank you for the chance on your giveaway and thanks for the video. I had no idea this site existed :o I think one of the big problems facing us today is to many folks think we have to be politically correct. We need to get back to the grass roots, a time like it was when I was growing up (born in 1955). So much hate these days, its sad. Well anyway, thanks for the heads up on this group.

Hello from Indiana :) I was thrilled to see your video and then have it directed to this site. I've been a avid hiker for years but new to the backpacking community and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading peoples blogs, articles and differing views on all things backpacking. I have wanted to try Hammocking while backpacking for awhile now and with any luck I'll win the hammock, allowing me to continue learning and honing my skill. Thank you again for helping me find this site. I look forward to reading more!

It is so refreshing to see that many of us still live by the values that have made America great!! Too bad there are so many that never experienced the true greatness of this country and only want to bring it down. But I have confidence that, in the end, greatness for America will prevail.

The apparent suppression of free speech and thought on today's college campuses is most distressing. Many of these students will be in government in a few years, either as bureaucrats, elected officials, or teaching our kids. This is NOT good. I associate the current PC mess with communist countries. Where if your head was not right according to the government, you were sent to a re-education to get your head right, if you were lucky.

Very well expressed Sarge! That is more than what most of us can hope to find on most internet forums these days. Once it was the the case on amateur (ham) radio, and ARPAnet before Al Gore and congress make a commercial boondoggle out of it, but good not-for-profit open discussions seem more difficult to find these days. Perhaps I am just getting old and remember the olden days as better than they really were. I was never really that fast with "CW". I spend most of my career designing high speed electronic/photonic communications equipment only to see it being used to sell porn and hate speech much of the time. Should have been a full time Christian worker like my parents perhaps and not felt so used by dirty commercialism, no amount of money can make a person feel clean. BTW I also appreciate that at this forum the Admins are not anti-Christian or anti-Jewish etc. like that other forum and we can quote from those books as well, not just "secular books" which are great to quote from. I value all books. Might even quote from the Koran but will not say who I really think inspired it lest that be seen as hate speech and someone declare a fatwa on me. I disapprove of some behaviors but don't hate any human alive or dead, that is God's domain.
