Re: Tapered Top Quilts

That's the best part of MYOG---trying it out to see if it works. Its always a thrill to find out you made a thing and it does what its supposed to do. Yes. It is also a level of confidence in that you know you can also modify something you bought to better fit your specific needs. Also a can of wor...

Re: Neusiok Trail

Never heard of it until your post. Sounds like fun after reading the site. Any idea what the water situation like on the trail? Let us know how it goes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk From what I've read it's boggy so there is water but it's full of tannins and may have a taste. I plan to drive...

Re: RE: Re: Cairn Subscription - Hope this is allowed

So your next decision is mule, horse or Llama so you can pack all your gear. If I don't stop buying gear soon I will need a mule, horse, AND llama.   Some of the stuff, arguably, is for when the wife comes camping with me. Not much of the stuff, but I want to be ready in case she ev...

Re: Tapered Top Quilts

That's exackery what I did... Well that's what I did tonight and it turned out pretty good. I actually mitered the corners slightly too to help give it a little more structure and hopefully help keep it lined up the way it is supposed to be because I noticed that it seems to want to "drift" a littl...

RSBTR DIY ZPP Bag!

Kinda proud of myself! RSBTR YPP BAG kit. I ordered it Tuesday and it was on my doorstep when I got home from work Wednesday! Super easy to do and I think it turned out good. I'll definitely be making a few more of these for my sisters and mom to use on their camping and backpacking trips! http://up...

Re: Cairn Subscription - Hope this is allowed

That would not be good for me at all. I already overbuy gear trying to figure out the best/lightest way to tote my stuff (2 packs) provide water (3 different filters, 1 SteriPen, and a plethora of hydration systems and water bottles) stay dry (2 tents, 2 hammock tarps, 1 flat tarp, 1 poncho/tarp, 1...

Cairn Subscription - Hope this is allowed

I hope that this is allowed. Mods, feel free to remove if not. I got an email from Cairn Subscription box today and it's a monthly subscription for camping/hiking/backpacking/emergency preparedness gear! I thought it was pretty cool and wanted to share! You can see the Cairn website here - http://ww...

Neusiok Trail

Has anyone hiked the Neusiok Trail in Craven county NC? My mom and I are planning to do it while I am out of school for Thanksgiving break. It's just a short 20 miler in the sandy flat lands of eastern NC. Didn't know if anyone else had taken the route before.

Re: Tapered Top Quilts

Got my Costco TQ done. I did mine a bit differently than most I've seen. Here's how most are done. Fold the quilt in half and then sew the side seam up to about 20-25" up from the foot end. THEN lay the now sewn quilt flat with the sewn seam in the middle and on the top. Then sew the foot end close...

Battery Pack Charger for Backpacking

I bought a solar charger and it works OK...as long as I have direct sunlight...so I'm looking for an actual battery pack or rechargeable station that I can charge at home and bring with me. What rugged and lite charging station do you use to charge your electronics on the trail?

Re: Inflatable SUP

Yep, one if them is an Ancheer 10ft max weight 350lbs. The other is a Vilano 10ft. The Vilano has a thicker construction but there's nothing wrong with the other one, works fine. My daughter and I out for a morning paddle. I don't live on the lake, so being inflatable makes transport easy. http://u...

Re: Inflatable SUP

I use an inflatable SUP. I've got two of them. Bought both of them off eBay, one for $200 and the other for $300. The $300 is better quality but came with leaks that I had to patch. It's great for cruising around on a lake or on a tame river. Excellent. Do you happen to know or can you find out wha...

Re: Sock Liner Suggestion

An old Infantryman's trick is to wear nylon hose under the sock. I've never done it, but I;ve know a lot of grunts who swear by it. So right! After I got the blister the first day of hiking in the woods, I cut a pair of nylon hose that I had at home and put them on under my socks the next day. I di...
