Hiking and Fishing

Been thinking more and more about trying my hand at Tenkara fly fishing for a few reasons, simplicity and size being the main ones. However, I was curious if anyone is packing a pole on their hikes and if so what kind? Has it been worth the weight and space in your pack for you to bring it? Any that...

If I bring a lightweight tiny tarp and decide I want full coverage, pack it up, walk to the trunk, and swap it for one of my winter dreams. Decide to not unpack a UQ cuz it's hot as hades and then a col...

On a side note, the Arnold Palmer tea jugs make excellent caching containers.

Re: The Time Has Come To Answer These Questions

Pretty sure we have it reserved. Is there some controlled burning or some other forest closing event going on in the near future??? Yeah Cheryl reserved it, but someone posted a picture on Facebook that they took showing signs saying it is closed until further notice and they had game cameras monit...

Re: Hammock Hang Trip Map

Karla, have you cross posted these under the trip threads here on hammockhangers? Nope, and probably won't. I'm only hosting two of them that I listed and I make separate websites for those hangs rather than have multiple threads and events across 4-5 platforms. No worries. Just a reminder that onc...

Re: Mission for Sil Nylon to make gear quilt

Kyle at www.ripstopbytheroll.com is a hard one to beat. Wide selection or supplies and fast shipping. Welcome to the forum! You may also try a pack strap out of lash it or zing it with one of the micro-biners. You can wrap it around the trunk of a tree and suspend your pack above the ground, a littl...

On a side note, one day I hope to get out to Cloudcroft and explore. Passed through a few years ago and it was beautiful!

Re: Water Management/Hiking-packing

I have not been on any dry hikes where I have had to rely on my sawyer mini, but I have noticed it clogs so easily and it has become such a pain to clean in the field. I just got a MSR Trailshot and first day was able to filter water out of an almost dry creek bed. There was about a 3/4" x 3/4" tric...
