Re: REI presentation on elevated camping "hammock camping"

The music festival comment caught me, besides the other stuff about lack of experiential knowledge regarding hammock camping. I have seen a trend on certain websites, like reddit, instagram and imgur of hammocks being used for photo ops and trendy stunts. Less of this is about hammock camping, which...

Why is my hammock suspension too tight/too loose?

Good information! Trivial knowledge: "Rule of thumb" has a medieval reference to the size of the rod that can be used to beat your wife. It can't be thicker than the man's thumb, or it becomes too abusive. Perhaps hammock hangers need a "Rule of the Gun Hand". On a more serious note, I haven't perso...

Re: Dang it's hot out here!

Fans, plural. Re: Butt Bake, I slept with no underquilt, (minimal clothing too) two D Cell fans on all night, and just a bunched up poncho liner at my feet that would creep down over my legs occasionally by morning. Air movement is key, and having woken up with my hammock drenched in sweat, I can at...

Thank you for your application of planning and organization talents! I am looking forward to visiting East Texas on a much more cooler (?) climate range!

Re: Hiking and Fishing

They have those things on Massdrop often. I like the small, collapsible and lightweight poles. Of course, I have never mastered the art of trout/stream fishing, as I've been a catfisher/trotline fisherman in the past. Actually, trotlining should be backpack friendly, if you take a roll of bank line,...

Re: Water Management/Hiking-packing

On a side note, one day I hope to get out to Cloudcroft and explore. Passed through a few years ago and it was beautiful! Holler at me if you're passing through. It is starting to be a weekend location for me here in Midland. And, it is mostly National Forest, so pretty cheap and accessible! Take i...

Hiking with guns

As one of those who is currently researching carry options, I have nearly settled on the Sig P320 compact and/or the Glock 17 (?) carry option. I may be wrong on the configurations of these items, as my handgun experience is limited to double stack .45s, and military training with the M9 and 1911. I...

Does this mean we can call you before 10 AM for a shuttle?
Where would we be shuttling from/to? Lake Livingston?

BTW, I will have two sons with me, hopefully there will be enough food to feed them. I will pay their feed bill

Re: The Time Has Come To Answer These Questions

Is there another water option? And, we certainly need the iron cooking option. Hurricane Cove? I trust that you guys will work it out, just let me know before I start that drive, lol.

Re: Mission for Sil Nylon to make gear quilt

Ditto RSBTR. Sometimes people do group buys for those giant rolls from that Magna Fabric website, which I did several years ago. However, I have used all that 1.1 up. If I was to buy again like you are searching for, I would go with RSBTR :-)
