Re: Dang it's hot out here!

I usually dont hang an uq unless I'm lower than 70*. I do like having something on me tho so i took a double sheet and sewed up a "tq" with it just so I have something on me. I got a small can but i have not tried it yet so i am not sure how Well it works. And of course permethrin or some kind of bu...

Re: RE: Re: Struggling

I love to get out, especially for multi night hangs. The first night is pretty good, although I too hear most of the sounds. The second night always seems better for me and nights three, four and beyond are the best. I have noticed this too. First night sucks, 2nd night better and by the 3rd night ...

Re: Struggling

I know this is an older post, but I haven't been on in a while. My wife's issue was a combination of noise and being a side sleeper. We went with a small fan( don't recall the brand), ear plugs, pillows and a bridge hammock. Fixed her issues so far. Good luck and don't give up! Thanks for bumping t...

Re: Struggling

I agree about the phone thing. I usually bring a 26,800 mAh charging station but I still don't want to risk being without a phone. So I bought a white noise fan that Sarge had in his video - the 3-speed TravelOn. We will see how that works. I do usually sleep with my feet slightly higher than my hea...

Re: Struggling

There's also the psychological difference of a hammock if you've been a tent camper. Despite the fact that you're protected from bugs and weather, you're far more exposed than in a tent. A tent feels like you're indoors. I never felt like I was in danger but there's some primal part of your brain t...

Re: Struggling

I agree with you all that white noise is likely an issue. I haven not looked into the ridgeline fans but I am going to now. Thanks Sarge for the video! I also have a white noise app on my phone and I have one of those under pillow speakers that I use when I travel that runs off the phone battery. I ...

Re: Struggling

Thanks everyone for pitching in. I'll answer some of the questions: Which hammock are you driving; what length/width? I started out in an Eno doublenest and did pretty decent. Of course that was before I learned about the diagonal. I slept like a banana and actually didn't sleep too bad. Even though...

Struggling

I'm in the woods listening to the rain at 350am and once again I'm not sleeping. I have been hanging since March of 2016. Outside of a time or 2, sleep is illusive. Even then out was only for a few hours. I hear of people going out and having these excellent nights right out the gate. Or even of not...

Re: First Ever Backyard Hang

I have been camping and hanging all over the place but I have never done the back yard. I can imagine you are right about the sounds of suburbia. Thankfully I live out in the sticks so the only sounds I'm afraid of are the coyotes that come up in the back yard at night!

Re: Do you GPS?

Just realized: did this not get answered? I remember answering some questions at your other thread re: InReach Explorer. But as to your question here: Yes, with the typical GPS, or for that matter a GPS app for your smart phone, you DO NOT need a phone signal. You just need a GPS signal, which is a...

Re: Just a quick reminder as Election day looms.

At 7 am Tuesday I will walk to the polling place at the Rec. Center and vote to keep the Supreme Court from becoming Progressive. This is the biggest thing in this election. It is with profound disappointment that I cast a vote for someone I neither respect nor want my children to emulate, but I ca...
