Re: Hey Y’all

Welcome! From what part of Texas do you hail?

Also, be sure to check out our next hammock hang happening at McKinney Falls State Park, January 11th through the 14th.

Re: Water Management/Hiking-packing

Well, I am going to resurrect an old thread. We were recently in the Davis mountains backpacking and I knew going in that there was probably going to be very limited water and possibly no water while on a 3 day/2 night hike. I ended up carrying just over 7 liters of water with me. The way I managed ...

Re: Questions on cordage for new Tarp

As far as camping in inclement weather, we have had storms come up and Melinda has fled to the Jeep to wait out the storm because she didn't feel like the tarp that she currently has would provide adequate shelter for her in a downpour, especially if there is any wind involved. I am hoping that the ...

Re: Questions on cordage for new Tarp

I just saw a YouTube video on using two lengths of shock cord with mitten hooks on each end. This allows you to hook two of the doors together with the shock cord either on the inside or the outside of the tarp. I think I would prefer inside the tarp as it would allow you to close off the doors with...

Re: Questions on cordage for new Tarp

I would but she currently has me set it up for her. She doesn't like to "diddle" with anything and will only go camping with me so I am always the one setting up everything for her (I am hoping to change that in the future-but right now I am just happy she will go hammock camping with me). She saw a...

Re: Questions on cordage for new Tarp

Another question: I see tarps that are using poles underneath the tarp in either a Center Pole configuration or and End Pole configuration. I have yet to see any explanation on why use one system over the other. I can see from a weight standpoint that a single pole system would be half as light in w...

Questions on cordage for new Tarp

Well, I bought my wife a "Penny Pincher" Winter Dream tarp from UGQ for Christmas and am now working on the suspension for it. I got it in Moroccan Blue as she likes the colors blue and green. In fact, had I known her color choices a little better I would have gotten the edging in Lime Green. I saw ...

Re: Lone Star Trail

The trail is usually open year round. During deer season you are "suppose" to only camp in the hunter's camp sites which are clearly marked on the LSHT trail maps. They also have a FaceBook page that contains up-to-date information about the trail and a place where you can ask questions directed at ...

Re: Kizme, the camping cat, tries swimming

My new kitten doesn't mind the water either. She is usually walking around on the tub or getting in the tub while I am taking a shower. One day she just sat down in the water at the end of the tub away from the shower head and groomed herself. Too funny. I have never had a cat before that didn't min...

Re: REI Garage Sale Finds

I have attended them in the past and scored some nice finds. But, like any garage sale, it is hit or miss depending on what you are in the market for and can afford. Being a lightweight backpacker, a kayaker and a hammock hanger, most of the stuff at REI that I want I have already purchased or it is...

Re: REI Garage Sale Finds

Not every REI has a Garage Sale on the same day. We have three REI stores in the Austin area and I know that they stagger their Garage Sales.
