Re: Lone Star Trail

The trail is usually open year round. During deer season you are "suppose" to only camp in the hunter's camp sites which are clearly marked on the LSHT trail maps. They also have a FaceBook page that contains up-to-date information about the trail and a place where you can ask questions directed at ...

Re: Kizme, the camping cat, tries swimming

My new kitten doesn't mind the water either. She is usually walking around on the tub or getting in the tub while I am taking a shower. One day she just sat down in the water at the end of the tub away from the shower head and groomed herself. Too funny. I have never had a cat before that didn't min...

Re: REI Garage Sale Finds

I have attended them in the past and scored some nice finds. But, like any garage sale, it is hit or miss depending on what you are in the market for and can afford. Being a lightweight backpacker, a kayaker and a hammock hanger, most of the stuff at REI that I want I have already purchased or it is...

Re: REI Garage Sale Finds

Not every REI has a Garage Sale on the same day. We have three REI stores in the Austin area and I know that they stagger their Garage Sales.

Re: Best slow cooker camping options

You could always get a small Honda electric generator that runs on gasoline. These are very quiet, but you would still not be able to run them at night-only during the day if you are at a State Park or similar that has quiet time hours. You could cook the food at home prior to leaving for your trip ...

Re: Ideal Camping Vehicle for Hammocking and Backpacking

I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 Port with 5-speed manual with an inline 6-cyclinder engine. It has 246,000 miles on it and I am just breaking it in. I do all of the work on it myself. I use it for scuba diving, backpacking, camping, kayaking (I put both kayaks on the roof rack) and also use it as a ...

There are also people who are willing to share their sites that they have reserved, including mine. My wife and I have a site reserved but we can accommodate a few other hangers as well. If you need a site and don't mind being with others, feel free to contact those individuals that have a site rese...

Re: Have we become too sensitive?

When I posted this, I meant "we" as people in general. I was not pointing a finger at anyone and saying that this or that person was any more or less sensitive than myself. I know I have bias and I know that others have bias. I also know that when I was in high school and took a debate class, we wer...

Re: Is this the future of campgrounds accommodating hammocks?

Well, from the pictures, it doesn't look like there are any tree from which to choose to hang your hammock. I for one am glad they are putting these structures up in the park. It keeps me from having to carry a "portable" hammock stand. As far as putting up a tarp, it can probably be accommodated, b...

Have we become too sensitive?

So, I am reading about a Google engineer who posts an internal memo [10 pages with cited sources] (Google as a company has promoted the use of employees doing this exact thing) describing what he feels is an issue with how Google is handling diversity in the workplace at his campus. I have read over...

Re: Personal Locator Beacons

I don't usually use anything in my first aid kit (except vitamin I) but I still carry it just in case. I also rarely backpack alone unless I am somewhere like a state park where I know I will run into other hikers on a regular basis. If I was to backpack alone in a very remote area, I would definite...

Hmmm, he must have changed his name again because the "Dealssatellites" doesn't bring back anything on eBay when I use the search function.
