Re: Amsteel - How much does Size matter

Google found this link that looks relevant: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/125262-Guide-to-Amsteel My understanding is that if you put a knot in the Amsteel the working load would go down to about 160 lbs. If your hang angle is 30 degrees the tension on your suspension is equal t...

Re: Have we become too sensitive?

Not only do Liberals tend to lie about what someone said and then kick the stuffing out of the strawman afterwards, they'll also claim that other people ignore science and that they never do, and then they'll ignore it all day long when it interferes with their narrative. So you did not explicitly ...

I'm just saying they are in the wrong and a bunch of oppressive PC bigots punishing people for having incorrect thoughts.
This would be an interesting topic.

IMHO, the Google/Damore incident does not provide a useful example.

I've been wondering what we can do to help the males. Affirmative action maybe?

Re: Have we become too sensitive?

And absolutely Google made a legal business decision. But they made a wrong decision, a discriminatory double standard decision. As indeed the laws are wrong and discriminatory and full of double standard. Discrimination is legal against out of favor(with government and corporations) groups, but no...

Re: Have we become too sensitive?

I'm thinking that the politics discussion has been very quiet for a long time. Google made a perfectly legal business decision. A U.S. company can terminate employment for no reason, or for any reason other than a very few specific reasons. I don't think it is possible to read anything into Google's...

Re: Republican Tax Reform 2017

And that is part of my problem. Everyone should get taxed at the same flat rate via a federal Sales tax. Then I pay 15% (for example) on my $65,000 car and Joe Blow has to pay 15% on his $15,000 KIA. I pay just shy of 10K in taxes for choosing to buy an expensive car, and he pays just over $2.2k fo...

Re: Republican Tax Reform 2017

one quick thought that just occurred to me. I have a question about retired seniors who live almost solely (along with Social Security) off of investment income. I am not sure if I like how this would impact them. My plan is to become one of them before too long. Remember federal income taxes are p...

Re: Water Management/Hiking-packing

The last time I packed a bunch of water my legs were hurting by mile 12 and killing me by mile 15 (Lone Star Hiking Trail; flat terrain). My base weight has come down a bit since then, and I was packing more water than I needed, but still, water is HEAVY. The next outing I carried only about 2 quart...

Re: Republican Tax Reform 2017

I dont think taxes should be paid on investment income. If I put money into a Roth IRA, i have already paid taxes on it when the money was taxed as my income. Now, If you want to tax me on dividends, then I can see that. What is your distinction between "investment income" and "dividends"? Dividend...

Republican Tax Reform 2017

In case you missed it, there is a web site on the current Republican Tax Reform effort of 2017: https://waysandmeans.house.gov/taxreform/ I assert that step #2 of their postcard is bad policy. What is the logic for taxing only half of investment income? It is exactly a tax break for the rich on the ...

Re: Yet another Nobel Laureate in Physics for intelligent design

SORRY, I'M GOING OFF TOPIC on my own thread, but this is all in response of the idea of using vitamin C to show how even brilliant nobel prize winning scientists can be wrong... Now back to Vitamin C and whether or not the 2 time Nobel prize winning Linus Pauling was way off re: benefits of vitamin...
