Re: My present camping vehicle...

I love it. It isn't exactly ultralight camping... Sure isn't. That's why I laugh quietly when people talk about 4 lb backpacks, or worry about how many more ounces their particular underquilt is. It is all what one is used to or uses. When someone asked recently what hiking cookware people used, wa...

My present camping vehicle...

Attached is picture of my present camping vehicle, which has been all over the oilfields of Texas when it was my field office. http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad206/Narwhaleinhouston/amb2.jpg Can take up to another 2500 lbs payload and just keeps on trucking.... And NO, the hammocks are for outsi...

What about hanging w/ boats, trucks, motorcycles, etc.

Please forgive me for being a "well rounded personality." Car camping is kind of limiting, vehicle camping is more open. And is this about camping or hanging? Vehicle supported hanging? Vehicle based hanging? ... I love sailing. Am thinking about participating in the Texas 200 sailboat event next Ju...

Re: Well, it's been fun...

Been nicer talking, but...
Hammock and hiking gear is a WHOLE lot cheaper and easier many other hobbies and sports, such as boating, redhead chasing, golf, airplanes, gliders, etc.
Get your mind in the right perspective.

Re: TRIP REPORT: 5th Annual Texas Butt Bake

Sarge, According to your video, the Butt Bake was supposed to represent hanging in our worst extreme local weather. Does this mean that if we get another tropical storm coming ashore nearby that we should have a stormy, wet butt hang? Or hurricane force winds would need to be documented with a blown...

Re: VIDEO: You Can Get There From Here: The Randall's in Pecan Grove

Thanks Sarge,
Can loan you a kayak if you want.
Enjoyed you movie because I've been driving to Harlem road and into the east side of Pecan Groves to give some rides to friends.
Was getting hard to get around.
Thanks.

Re: Choose a Hammock with Stand?

For interior room hanging, most people attach some rings directly to wall studs, and then hang their hammock between the attachment rings on the walls. Most of the hammock stands take up too much room for inside hanging.

Re: So this is the dark side?

Wouldn't a TRUE dark side guy (or gal) have a black hammock with a black undercover and a black top cover with black ridgelines and black suspension?
(Just like an old bad guy in TV westerns?)

http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad206/Narwhaleinhouston/STRAPS%201.jpg A picture of my latest tree straps, with loops both ends. (Fasten strap to tree by passing free strap end thru other strap loop, then tightening up around the tree. No hardware there.) Each one is just short of 10' long. Eye ...

Re: 2to1 Straps

Scuba, my 2 cents on your examples (take what you want and leave the rest...) Assuming these are tree straps. Read awhile back that each stich can safely carry about 3 lbs in single shear, given good thread and a TIGHT stich. At 30 degree angle angle and perfect world, each strap need 300 lbs streng...

Oh man....
When I got here they said someone had brought a lot of fresh, cold milk to the site, and all the guys (and gals) had eaten ALL the cookies with the milk.
I didn't get any!

Re: 2to1 Straps

If this gets tied around a 6" diameter tree, then how does one fasten the 3" webbing except a tied hitch?
Not very convenient, nor fast, nor readily adjustable.
