Re: Amsteel - How much does Size matter

Size in my humble opinion does not matter, the larger the amsteel the more weight it will carry. Now if you are backpacking most of the time 7/64 amsteel will carry almost all of the weight you will throw at it, but you will only shave off points of an ounce or milligrams.

Re: Hammock Stand

Hopefully, I will be building a set of turtle-dog stands for me to use in the backyard within the next few months, I will be hanging though at home.

Re: Hammock Repair

My vote would be a patch of Gorilla tape on both sides and over stitch the area.

Re: Be careful of those trees!

This is truly a sad story, however, how does one tell if a tree is rotting from the center? I have a softwood tree which lost a large limb is a wind storm there was no rotting, or cracking noted at the time of the break.

Re: Amsteel - How much does Size matter

I have chosen to build my ridge line and suspension using 1/8-inch amsteel. Tensile Strength Lbs. 1400 for 7/64-inch and Tensile strength or 1/8-inch is 2100. On youtube Factor 55 states you can lower the Dyeenma tensile strength by as much as 65% with a knot. Using Factor 55's number the breaking s...

Re: Texas State Parks and 2 inch straps

Are there any possibilities of stitching a 2-inch webbing to our 1-inch straps thereby following the State mandated 2-inch strap? Wondering if stitching 4-feet of 2-inch webbing for the first 1-foot of the strap and wrapping the remainder of the 4-foot section around the tree, might work?

Re: 9 steps to responsible hammocking

Thanks, BillyBob66 I was thinking the same thing about the hang height, though I don't want to fall 21 inches I do want to sit comfortably in my hammock, maybe lower if I want to cook from the hammock.

PS - I use a continuous ridgeline with prussics for my tarp. Love being able to set it up in the rain and then work underneath it to hang everything else. The prussics let the tarp slide to center it over the hammock.
That is what I plan to do with my Tarp as well!

Amsteel in suspention

I realize there is disagreement with my use of amsteel 1/8 inch cordage. I am still going to ask how should I rig my hammock, going with 1-inch webbing through descender rings, considering softshackles at the gathered ends of my hammock versus continuous loops. Many say their ENO doublenest sleeps w...

Re: First hang with Whoopies

Love the saying, "hike your own hike" and the podcast Hang your own hang. Thus far I am not the ounce Winnie group, later on, I may well become an ounce Winnie and change to 7/64 or less. Now I am making adjustments to my gear and thinking of making my own stuff. I will try to make some videos of my...

Re: First hang with Whoopies

Hate to change the subject, but where is a good place to get amsteel, looking for 1/8 inch, ripstop and dutchwae are not consistent with this cordage. Why 1/8? What is your application? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1/8" easier to find and my old fat ass nears 200 pounds at times, though I am ...
