Re: Shaving Weight Off My Hammock

When you say 'straps' are you talking about going around the tree, or going to the hammock. I wouldn't recommend using muletape as a treestrap. It gets snagged on the bark very easily and will start to fray. Plus it's usually too thin to pass for the recommended 1". It may damage the tree. I use a s...

Re: Spiders

Dutch! Those look cool! Does it matter the size of the cont. loop? I've got 1/8th CL on my hammock. Will they be too big to work with these?

Re: VIDEO: SnugPak Underblanket---Product Overview

Sorry, I was looking under the wrong name. I see it on Amazon. Great price for the small sacrifice of being a little heavier and bulkier.

Re: VIDEO: SnugPak Underblanket---Product Overview

Sarge,
I've been looking for a lower cost underquilt like this, for my sons when we go family car camping. Where do you find this in the U.S.?

Re: Pursuit of perfection?

I think the fun part is where the pursuit of perfection and that darn moving target overlap. We all have a good idea that in general terms, an 11ft ripstop hammock is going to be more comfortable than a stretchy 8.5ft nylon hammock. But that bigger hammock is going to take up more space in my pack a...

Re: training the grandkids offtrail/map/compass/GPS

I'm lucky with my local club, the North Texas Orienteering Association. Thanks! I just checked out the website. I've got plans for 12/12, but I am going to try to make one of the events in January. I have always wanted to learn how to navigate using a compass and top map. Any advise on what to look...

Re: Best Top Insulation For a Noob

I may need help being pushed over the edge. Got a nice but old down bag. I can't bring myself to put scissor to zipper and cut it off. My wallet says "Cut that **** off! Now!" But my 25 year old self says "think about all those good time we had on the ground. Sure you had sore back and hips, but I k...

I like that, Scott.
I never really thought about it as a Cost Per Oz. (CPO), but I think that's a measurable I'm going to start looking at.

Re: Pack list

+1 on getting your pack organized a week before hand. In May I went on a 2 day and just assumed I had everything I needed in my pack. I ended up being 'That Guy' who was bumming stuff.

I've always used a quick excel sheet, but the website sounds interesting. I'll have to take a look.
