I could use one of those.

Re: Bridge Hammock

I made one based on patterns I found online and I hated it. I had more issues with shoulder squeeze than any gathered end. Others have used the same pattern and raved about it. I use 10'6" hammocks with a fixed ridgeline at 8'9", or just a shade over 83% of the hammock length. Getting the right angl...

Re: Warmest winter so far?

That's interesting. Here in Idaho we had record cold and the most snowfall in over 30 years. However, outside of this winter we don't get snow like we did when I was younger. It usually rains instead.

Re: White House Claims Massive Voter Fraud

At this point I don't know what to think. We have the unprecedented event of foreign electronic interference in our election. We have a president that seems to be far more concerned with the size of his hands, his popular vote loss and his inauguration audience than being the president. Alternate fa...

Re: Mora knives !!! Question.

Sharp spine also works great for getting wood shavings for tinder. There are a lot of beautiful knives out there, but for $15 that Robust is hard to beat. It's WAY nicer than it should be for the price.

Re: Mora knives !!! Question.

I believe you can hang the companion on the robust, but not the other way around. If you file down the spine of the robust it will really throw some sparks off a fire steel. Took me about 20 minutes to put a nice flat spine on the robust and it's a killer backpacking knife at 4.5 oz.

Re: Under-quilt for ENO DoubleNest Hammock

I'm confused about the math and temp rating. 1" baffles with .5" chambers doesn't make sense to me; the chamber height should be more than the baffle height. As far as the temp rating, you need about 2.25" of loft to hit 20 degrees, not sure how that math works with 1" baffles. Can you clarify the n...

Re: Struggling

I switched to hammocks because my back always hurt after using a pad. I sleep far better in the hammock, but I still wake up every night. There's wind, rain, animals making noise, the call of nature.... There's also the psychological difference of a hammock if you've been a tent camper. Despite the ...

I've got a new down quilt with 4" of loft to test out and we've only been getting down to 28 or so. I feel your pain. I need single digits, preferably below zero.

Re: Just a quick reminder as Election day looms.

I'm not happy about the outcome, but I feel like I got shot when the other option was being stabbed. Liked my chances better getting stabbed, but it was still going to hurt. Regardless of who you voted for, this presidential election was a mess of lies, pandering empty promises and questionable ethi...

At least there's one place on the internet that won't be completely overwhelmed with uniformed commentary and anger. Thanks for being a bunch of level headed people.

Sure wish I could make it but google maps says 25 hours of driving each way for me.

I'll have to plan ahead farther for next year. Never been to Texas.

Re: Rookie mistakes...

My big rookie mistake was taking a weather report at face value and testing my first UQ at its limit. Made a climashield 5.0 UQ, should be good down to 30 or so, weather for the cabin said low of 30, early spring. Figured it would be a good test of the quilt's limit. Also had a 20 degree bag as a TQ...

Re: Wet weather camping

I'll usually go anyway. Just a little extra weight for full rain suit and the bigger tarp if I'm expecting to spend a lot of time under it. It's a little tougher to get a fire going but you appreciate it a lot more. Of course, I live in Idaho. A rainy weekend here means there will be times where it ...

Re: AHH.....I STRONGLY DISLIKE THAT

The copyright issue and the "donations" have been my biggest issue. If this site had a donating members option I would probably do it; I'm fairly sure the money's use would be disclosed and would not just fall into an admins bank account.
