Amsteel - How much does Size matter

Does this include the Knot used to attach it to the Hammock? I used the knot suggested online for the HH. Yes and no. What we commonly do with Amsteel at the end of a hammock is go around the fabric end and then larks head or girth hitch a loop or whoopie. The result is a de-ration of a little less...

Re: DIY Kifaru Knock-Off

Nice job, coming up with the little projects from scrap or leftovers is the best part of DIY.

For the tops on the back could you fold the corners in and stitch them as you would when making a stuff sack with a gusset bottom?

Re: Water Management/Hiking-packing

Trails that cross roads are a good opportunity to drive to the crossings and drop off a gallon jug before hand if you're in the mood for a nice lazy hike its a good option. This is coming from an east coaster, we've got it pretty easy so I don't know how much will apply to your region but here it go...

Re: Mission for Sil Nylon to make gear quilt

For a small quantity maybe try posting a "want to buy..." in forums like this. Someone might have some hanging around they're not doing anything with and will let it go cheap.

I'd offer you some, but I only have uncoated fabric hanging around right now.

Re: Bling is for the birds!!!

I'm setting up with a modified becket hitch for suspension, Siberian hitch and truckers hitch for the tarp ridge line, Marlin spike hitch on the stakes for tarp tie outs. I have to admit a Dutch wasp sounds appealing to avoid tying the truckers hitch. At two grams it probably isn't much of a weight ...

~2.4g per foot 1in dyneema webbing

My generic Kevlar straps have about had it after 3 years. Just picked up some straps from "myerstech hammock labs" They're coming in between 2.3 and 2.4g per foot on my scale. Not the lightest out there, but much cheaper for me as it is sold by the foot for $1.19. I can get just enough shipped for t...

UL Tent Stakes

I have used the carbon fiber several times and they work great for anything but hard rocky ground. Most the soil around where I camp is silt loam and they do great. Probably worth a shot in your soil. Edit: said sandy loam but it is actually silt loam. Fixed the response. Silt loam is about half as ...

Who sells out occasionally?

Pick a campsite wth as soft ground as you can find. Soft, loamy soil with thick leaf litter or soft pine needles is what you want if you can find it. Even if you carry the best pad you can buy, it's only going to do so much.

Try to avoid frequented campsites where the ground is compacted.

Hi all

If you are willing to make some of your own gear a cheap sewing machine will pretty much pay for itself several times over. Rather than buying new check out the buy/selling sections of this and other hammock forums. Also check out https://lwhiker.com. If you have an idea of what you are looking for ...

Re: UL Tent Stakes

I had considered dipping the tops or something to make them more visible. I plan on using the ti skewers with my stove, too. Figured the paint would flake off from the heat. I usually just use four guy outs on a rectangle tarp. I just plan on using the wire stakes if I close one end with doors. If I...

Fooling around with some damaged carbon arrows and titanium scrap. Made a set of 8 stakes that total less than 1oz. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170418/02d4222985fb6691530b792d315a69c1.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170418/3d297916e9ff2c0023068811d01b57be.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-c...

Re: Personal Locator Beacons

What part of the US? I don't have any health issues and mostly hike around the eastern US. I feel it's a lot harder to get lost or in a dire situation here. Wilderness is much smaller here compared to out west. If you did get lost you are probably a days hike out to a town 99% of the time. I just te...
