Re: Be careful of those trees!

This is truly a sad story, however, how does one tell if a tree is rotting from the center? I have a softwood tree which lost a large limb is a wind storm there was no rotting, or cracking noted at the time of the break. Where I hike, otherwise healthy looking trees fall over not infrequently, and ...

Re: Harvey

Well, the edges of Harvey have made it up to north MS now, gifting us with a morning of tornado warnings. Had to get in our shelter for about 1/2 hour, siren has stopped for now. I pray that these devils don't get any one, to add to the deaths already recorded from the hurricane. I hate tornadoes as...

Re: Harvey

Be safe! If you have not had to evacuate, and the wind or flood danger is not too high where you are, you probably will have a good opportunity to do a major tarp test!

Well if your trees did not burn down, looks like you might get a chance to do a good tarp test! Be safe!

Re: So how "off topic" is the off topic?

There is also a lot of non-hammock discussion that has gone on in the religion/God, politics and gun areas. But I suppose that could also take place in the off topic zone.

............................................................................ ~This silencing has created an ideological echo chamber where some ideas are too sacred to be honestly discussed. The lack of discussion fosters the most extreme and authoritarian elements of this ideology. ~Extreme: all d...

On women in computer science: http://www.npr.org/sections/alltechconsidered/2017/08/10/542638758/colleges-have-increased-women-computer-science-majors-what-can-google-learn I've been wondering what we can do to help the males. Re: Have we become too sensitive?

And absolutely Google made a legal business decision. But they made a wrong decision, a discriminatory double standard decision. As indeed the laws are wrong and discriminatory and full of double standard. Discrimination is legal against out of favor(with government and corporations) groups, but no...

Re: Have we become too sensitive?

I'm thinking that the politics discussion has been very quiet for a long time. Google made a perfectly legal business decision. A U.S. company can terminate employment for no reason, or for any reason other than a very few specific reasons. I don't think it is possible to read anything into Google'...

Re: Have we become too sensitive?

You are most likely correct. He has suffered from the PC bias of the current corporate world, our governments and much of brain washed society. They promote openness, but not that kind of openness. They want him and all of their employees to be open to the concept that a woman can do anything a man ...

Re: 9 steps to responsible hammocking

looks pretty thorough as far as responsible hanging goes. But how would one identify an established hanging site? Presumably we would leave no trace, right? But maybe that means an authorized spot, where hanging is officially allowed in an established camp ground? What is with the "never hang more t...

Re: Why is my hammock suspension too tight/too loose?

I must have picked up some skills related to hanging a hammock over the years, as just today I pulled off something that I gave up on way back in 2006-07. What I gave up on is hanging a hammock from any trees in my yard. The only time I have really done this in the past is when I used two 2X4s in an...
