Re: Whatcha gear are you working on?

Always testing! Have a new synthetic UQ from AHE designed just for the WB RR bridge, tested it last night at 30F, nice and toasty. Also tested a 30F TQ from Sierra Madre, toasty also. I am testing a new hammock design from a manufacturer, love it, but have not been given OK to post about it yet.

Re: 2019 Camping Goals

I hope to get in a Sipsey Wilderness trip before the cool weather goes away. In early fall we are planning a Rocky Mountain back pack, probably Wind Rivers, WY or Sawtooths on ID. In the meantime, just plenty of day hikes, enjoying off trail(no snakes or bugs, too cold! )and back yard testing.

Re: some very interesting new stuff(prelim review) vs some great old stuff

The trouble is, how am I really going to beat this older system of mine, other than saving a few oz, and avoiding spreader bars and assuming I'm ok with bridge hammocks to start with? Quilt was already attached to the hammock inside the pack, just took the new set up down and had it up and correctly...

some very interesting new stuff(prelim review) vs some great old stuff

Well, here I am 12 years older than when I started with my HH Super Shelter on a fall high mountain trip(10k-11K sleep elevations), and I have still to come to a firm conclusion as to which system is hands down best overall. Bottom line is I have or had several systems which have got the job done fo...

Fantastic trip report, Runner and Marine! And you used a drone! Aerial shots! Hey, did I hear you say you used a Sierra Madre hammock? How was that?

Warm when wet?

I have been looking around for some new gear to maybe test out, and I stumbled onto this, sorry if it has already been discussed, I don't get on here as often as I once did. In years past at other forums, I had a thread where I put some of my synthetic (Polarguard) clothing to the test a couple of d...

How has the hanging weather been where you are?

I think we have a nice warm spell coming, but we have been pretty cold and snowy here in MS this year, with a lot of below average days. elsewhere: " (Calgary Canada)9 Feb 2018 – “For this time period in February you have the most snow on the ground ever recorded — and in such an arid climate,” says...

Re: HH Ridgeline to Amsteel

I have not. Then again, I have never had any RR break on me. I don't pull then very tight. Usually, after I get in, they are a bit looser than when I set up. I do have one HH RL that I cut and inserted a(smallest) screw link, so I could get rid of the RL if I wanted to use a PeaPod. It also has neve...

If they are going to get paid anyway, why not just have them keep working and do their jobs?
Indeed! Why not?

Re: Very Thankfull This Morning

Roger that! I remember fuming when the feds closed the woods. Rather than only telling staff to stay home, and warning the public: You are on your own, enter at your own risk! And it never actually saved any money, as all were paid when they inevitably came back into business a short time later. It j...

Re: MD Pinnacle lightweight tarp for $29.99... 17oz

I just weighed it again in response to a question asked at Amazon, and on a different scale that measures in smaller increments, though I can't say which is actually more accurate, or if either is accurate at all. It weighed a tiny bit more on the other scale: 18.24 oz + .53 stuff sack= 18.77. Stake...

I just built a couple of turtle-dog stands and have them setup in my bonus room. But just bought some hardware to attach to the walls to free up some room.

Re: Hammock Stand

I have used a similar one for many years, and it is better than nothing. I have set some of my all time records for cold weather hanging using one in the back yard. It gets the job done. But there are 2 problems, other than weight and size if transporting to a campground: 1: it flexes significantly,...
